How does a Geothermal Heat Pump Work

Geothermal heat pumps uses the earth's natural heat to circulate water or refrigerant between an underground network of pipes and heat pumps located inside the house.
One of the major requirements  is the installation of ground loops.
The technology used in geothermal heat pumps is based on the fact that
the ground temperature is always relatively constant, warmer than the air in winter
and cooler than the air in summer.

The world's largest installation of geothermal heat pumps is in Fort Polk, Louisiana.
You should also know that the efficiency of geothermal heat pumps is always better at heating when compared to pure electric heaters, even in times when heat pumps are used to extract heat from the cold winter air. The one drawback of these heat pumps are their installation costs. One of the restrictions of geothermal heat pumps is that they need enough space for their underground coils in order to work. One of the attractions to geothermal heat pumps is its efficiency. The heating efficiency of geothermal pumps is measured in COP (coefficient of performance) and the cooling efficiency is measured in EER (energy efficiency ratio). Geothermal heat pumps are similar to ordinary heat pumps, but instead of using heat found in outside air, they rely on the stable, even heat of the earth to provide heating, air conditioning and, in most cases, hot water.
The high efficiency of the geothermal heat pumps are what make them so appealing to homeowners, in addition to the fact that they last longer, need little maintenance, are quieter, and do not depend on the temperature of the outside air.

In fact, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency, geothermal heat pumps are the most efficient way there is to heat and cool your home on the planet.
Because geothermal heat pumps are simply moving existing heat from one place (the ground) to another (your home), the heat itself is free. They are durable, comfortable, environmentally safe, non-allergenic and clean.
Such heat pumps not only lower your heating and cooling bills, but also require minimal maintenance.
Many people today are hearing about the huge savings of switching to geothermal heat pumps for their heating and cooling needs.

Geothermal heat pumps are not only environmentally friendly but provides a unique way for you to save on your utility bills
